Boys Lacrosse: Salem @ Georgetown
After starting the season 1-5, Georgetown moved above the .500 mark with a 13-8 victory over Salem yesterday. Now at 9-8, the Royals need to win one of their final two games to qualify for the state tournament. Against Salem, Georgetown met their goal of playing uptempo and adjusting to situations as the game went on. For the eight seniors on the team, this was a great win in their last home game on Senior Day.

Mike Gochakowski netted six goals, while Ben Warren, Alex Brannon, and Ben Brock scored a pair each. Joe Mangano turned away 7 shots in net for the Royals.

Lynnfield's Dylan Costa threw a 3-hit shutout to defeat Triton 5-0. Costa upped his personal record to 4-1 on the season, lowering his already outstanding ERA to 0.40 in 36 innings of work. Boys Tennis: Manchester-Essex @ North Reading
In a battle of the Hornets, both teams entered with identical league records of 6-2. Both teams lost to North Andover 3-2, and both teams fell to Hamilton-Wenham 4-1. It should come as no surprise that after four matches were complete, the score was knotted at 2-2.

For Manchester-Essex, the wins came from Michael Fuca at first singles and the second doubles tandem of Kevin Cellucci and Emmett Ryan. North Reading won at third singles behind Chris Yarrow, and first doubles with Kyle Harris and Jack Maidment.

The final and deciding match came down to second singles, where two of the league's top players in that position faced off. North Reading's Ryan Barrows came in undefeated in match play, and Calvin Lamothe of Manchester-Essex had lost just once. After falling behind 1-2, Lamothe took the first set with five straight wins, and then jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second set. Barrows was not ready to concede, however, and battled back to 4-3. Lamothe took the final two games to give his team the match and secure a spot in the state tournament.

Baseball: Ipswich @ Masconomet
Ipswich built a 5-0 run over the first five innings, and then held off a Masconomet rally in the sixth to win 5-3. Louis Galanis and Dan O'Flynn had two hits apiece for the Tigers, and Ryan Law knocked in a pair of RBI. Pat Curran pitched five innings and picked up the victory.

The win kept Ipswich, 6-10, in the hunt for a state tournament bid, but the Tigers must win all four of their remaining games. For Masconomet (9-7), the loss drops them two games behind Div. 1 leader Pentucket in league play, and leaves them one short of the ten wins they need to qualify for the tournament. The Chieftains have four games left to pick up that win.

Boys Tennis: Hamilton-Wenham @ Pentucket
Hamilton-Wenham traveled to Pentucket and came home with a 4-1 win over the Sachems. The Generals swept the singles behind Stu Rowe (7-5, 6-1), Brian Rodgers (6-0, 6-1), and Ben Chansky (1-6, 6-0, 6-1). Chansky bounced back after dropping the first set to remain undefeated at the third singles position, setting up a potential showdown of undefeated players next Monday at Ipswich.

In doubles, the H-W's first doubles team suffered their first loss of the season, falling 2-6, 4-6 to Pentucket's duo of Chris Adams and Danny Ryan. Adams and Ryan, both fairly new to the sport, started the season at second doubles.

The second doubles match was a marathon, as Jacob Randall and Joe Love of H-W needed three sets and more than three hours to take down their opponents, 7-6 (15-13), 6-7 (6-8), 6-4.

The win locks up at least a share of the CAL Division 2 title for the Generals, who can claim the crown outright with a win over Masconomet on Saturday or Ipswich on Monday. The Sachems, who have already clinched a state tournament birth, are still in the running for the Division 1 title, as they are just a game behind North Andover in the loss column.

Softball: Schedule Corrections
The format for determining "league games" versus "non-league games" was changed prior to the start of the softball season, but was not updated on the league's master schedule. The previous league schedule was determined by playing every school in the league once, and any additional games between CAL schools, even those in the same division, were considered non-league games and would not count towards league standings.

This year, however, the league schedule was changed to include one game against schools from other divisions, and two games within each division. Therefore, instead of an 11-game league schedule, there is now a 14-game league schedule for Div. 1, 15-game league schedule for Div. 2, and a 13-game league schedule for Div. 3.

Therefore, all games played between divisional rivals that had been marked as non-league have been changed to league games. This has changed the league records of all teams, and may have resulted in a shuffling of the league standings. Overall records have not changed.

Baseball: Pentucket @ Masconomet
Pentucket avenged an early season loss to Masconomet today, as they beat the Chieftains 5-2 to improve to 7-2 in league play and claim sole possession of first place in Division 1.

Offensively, Connor McGuirk was 2 for 4, with a pair of runs and a pair of RBI. Ahmad Ateyat was 2 for 3, also knocking in a pair of runs and scoring once.

For the second day in a row, Georgetown jumped out to a first half lead against Manchester-Essex, heading into the break with a 5-1 advantage. However, while the Hornets would close the gap slightly to 7-4 after three quarters, the Royals would score three unanswered goals in the final frame to take the game and even their record at 8-8. Yes, another redesign of CALScores.com!

I was hearing from some people that they were not able to view the recently updated site. Along with that, I have moved to a database driven delivery system instead of a spreadsheet system.

Hence - the new layout. It is a little different than the old system, but I believe that it will work better over the long haul, as it will allow for easier scheduling and updates, and also for viewing archived information (including All-League and Recap pages.) It also makes possible features such as the "Today's Game" box to the right.

The Schools menu option is not functional at the moment, but will be soon. Much of the information on the sports pages still needs to be updated, but scores and schedules are all available.

Advertising information will also be available soon.
